Optical Cavity for the Strontium Lattice Atomic Clock
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Sr lattice atomic clock in Jun Ye’s group has been experiencing frequency shifts due to the interaction between the Sr atoms in the optical trap. One possible solution is to change the optical trap in the system such that the Sr atom density, and therefore the interaction between the atoms, is reduced. For this project a test system is necessary to test the vacuum chamber viewports, which involved building a laser diode and an optical cavity. This paper will explore the theory behind both as well as their implementation.

Ultra-stable clock laser system development towards space applications
The increasing performance of optical lattice clocks has made them attractive for scientific applications in space and thus has pushed the development of their components including the interrogation lasers of the clock transitions towards being suitable for space, which amongst others requires making them more power efficient, radiation hardened, smaller, lighter as well as more mechanically st...
متن کاملPrecision measurement and frequency metrology with ultracold atoms
Precision measurement and frequency metrology have pushed many scientific and technological frontiers in the field of atomic, molecular and optical physics. In this article, we provide a brief review on the recent development of optical atomic clocks, with an emphasis placed on the important inter-dependence between measurement precision and systematic effects. After presenting a general discus...
متن کاملA Boost in Precision for Optical Atomic Clocks
T oday’s most precise atomic clocks are based on strontium, ytterbium, and other alkaline-earth (or alkaline-earth-like) atoms [1]. These elements have ultranarrow transitions at optical frequencies, providing stable and precise frequency standards for measuring time, as does the quartz oscillator in a wristwatch. Alkalineearth frequency standards are almost a thousandfold more precise than the...
متن کاملSystematic study of the 87 Sr clock transition in an optical lattice Andrew
With ultracold Sr confined in a magic wavelength optical lattice, we present the most precise study (2.8 Hz statistical uncertainty) to-date of the 1S0 3P0 optical clock transition with a detailed analysis of systematic shifts (20 Hz uncertainty) in the absolute frequency measurement of 429 228 004 229 867 Hz. The high resolution permits an investigation of the optical lattice motional sideband...
متن کاملCoherence of Spin-Polarized Fermions Interacting with a Clock Laser in a Stark-Shift-Free Optical Lattice
We investigated the coherence of spin-polarized Sr atoms trapped in a light-shift-free one-dimensional optical lattice during their interaction with a clock laser on the S0 − P0 transition. Collapses and revivals appeared for more than 50 Rabi cycles, attributed to the thermal distribution of discrete vibrational states in the lattice potential. The population oscillation in the clock states la...
